The History of Villasimius
The municipality of Villasimius, known today as one of the main tourist destinations in southern Sardinia, has always been a village dedicated to agriculture and pastoralism. Due to its strategic location, Villasimius has been inhabited since the Nuragic age, as evidenced by the remains of domus de janas and later as a Phoenician and Roman colony. During the Middle Ages, the village of Carbonara belonged to the judiciary of Cagliari (1258) before passing under the control of Gherardo della Gherardesca. Finally, in the Aragonese period, Villasimius was controlled by the feudal Carroz family. It was during the Spanish period that the various watchtowers and a coastal fortress were erected.
